I was recently asked, “What’s been your favorite place?”
…
…
<more moving ellipses>…
My brain was busy rifling through my card catalog drawer of memories. (yes, I am old enough to have used a physical card catalog, ooh the smell of those drawers.)
“Only one?” I asked.
Then I proceeded to explain that the world is so gosh darn big, how could I pick ONLY.ONE.FAVORITE.PLACE. Personally, I don’t necessarily have a bucket list of favorites. I mean, it’s called the WHOLE WIDE WORLD for a reason.
Of course, I did make an attempt to label FAVORITES, and a start of “favorites” list is below. Each of our trips are packed with memories (SWIDT?) that there are not often whole trips favorites, but specific locations that stand out that I’d like to share. Like Professor Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series pulling his memories from his head into the “Pensieve.” This post will add to the world’s pensieve- in this case destination knowledge pool. It’s a range of specific locations and broad sweeping generalizations – arm flourish here, and they are sure to help catalyst ideas. Nonetheless a great collection for inspiration to add to your own destination bucket lists and create once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences.
In no particular order of course, because that would imply a favorite.
BWCA Wilderness, Minnesota

The call of the lonely loon, coyotes howling at the moon, wind rustling through the trees…
If you are a camper, a-sleep-in-tent-and-carry-your-gear-and-a-canoe-over-a-portage-type camper, the BWCA is a dream to experience. Bring Bug Dope.
Brasav, Romania

Romania was on my bucket list not only because of Transylvania but because of the opportunity to see fortified churches, and fortified cities that have been protected by UNESCO. It’s also off the beaten path and not on everyone’s radar – especially in the fall, our chosen time to visit.
Vysehrade, PRAGUE Czech Republic

Northern Ireland
This one gets two photos because I love the fact that you can start your day with coffee at the Dark Hedges, and finish with whiskey later that evening after a hike to Giant’s Causeway. Ireland is just so easy, it’s always on my list and should be on everyone’s UK bucket list.
The Great Wall of China

This one is often out of reach for some folks, the 13-hour flight alone is a killer. But there’s magic in China that is old and mysterious and fills you with marvel at every turn. Just Go.
Chamonix, France

I owe it to Chamonix for the push to start this blog, we had such a great time in this beautiful valley. Read more of my time in my post here>>
To be Continued. . .
I’ll keep adding to this bucket list inspo. There’s always more, of course – and because we’re travelers I know it will keep growing. Stay tuned and thanks for reading!
